Small Town Natural: More floating adventures! Algonquin Highlands

This float you will need two vehicles. Turn off Hwy 35 onto Little Hawk Lake Road and follow signage for Historic Log Chute. Before reaching the historic site (I will discuss in a future blog post) on the right side of the road is a little parkette along the river.

Hawk Valley Park located at 1362 Big Hawk Road in the beautiful Algonquin Highlands, Ontario, Canada. This pic is of the take out spot at this parkette.

Park the car with towels and shoes etc here at the roadside parking area. Note* Parking for 10 cars if all vehicles park on diagonal. Also there are 2x picnic tables and garbage bins and an outhouse style washroom. No overnight camping allowed and no open fires. Then in 2nd vehicle drive past this park to the next one on the right.

Parking is on the left just off the roadside. Carry your floaties across the road to the parkette. There are several launch spots. They are not sandy. These are pebbly launch and take out spots. If your feet are sensitive wear water shoes.

Beware the water here is shallow and has very strong current! Life jackets are always a wise choice. You will need a floaty that sits on top of the water not appropriate for pool noodles as your body will hit rocks and underwater branches etc.Float safe!

Before your float in the river be sure to check out the rushing waters upstream at the historic log chute site. More on that in a future blog post!
