Small Town Natural: Shredding the Sir Sam's Ski & Ride (in Haliburton, ON, Canada) MTB trails

Sir Sam's Ski & Ride has breathtaking views of Eagle Lake from the ski hill top! I took these on a foggy early morning in September 2024.

These trails are super fun! I would highly recommend them for beginner MTBers. Great place to learn! The climb up the hill is relatively easy if you are physically fit or an energetic child.

Parking: Free park at the ski lodge at the base of ski hill

Fee: check Sir Sam's website for current fees (at the time of this Blog post after hours rides without lift/carpet is $10 per rider) Daytime fees vary depending on if you are getting a lift up to the hilltop.

Cell reception; Excellent

Garbage: at the base of the ski hill at lodge

Picnic tables: 1 picnic table at hilltop and 1 at parking lot at base of hill

Washrooms: available at ski lodge during regular biz hours

Other things to do: there are hiking trails here too. The hiking trails are separate from bike trails and are a separate fee.

I hope they will one day add more signage. In particular it would be helpful to have another large map like the 1st pic above at the ski-hill top. I also found the signs for Lou's Loop at the hilltop need to be more clearly marked instead of a blue arrow because you don't know you are on Willow or Lou's Loop. Other than that the signage is good.

More Sir Sam's Ski & Ride pics. Super fun swoopy trails! In my opinion they are easier than their ratings (Green is Purple, Blue is Green, Black is Blue, Dbl Black is Black) All in all a fun trail system! Especially the downhills! The climb up Lou's Loop really isn't difficult at all. You could easily stay in zone 2 while doing this winding easy climb. Save your energy for fun at the top!

Other than a big map sign at the hill top; I would also like to see more skill building features especially on the blue trails. Like skinnies or teeter totters or more drop ramps that cannot be rolled so one has to have skill to ride them.  All in all a fun half-day riding these trails at Sir Sam's Ski & Ride!
