Bracebridge Resource Management Centre (BRMC) MTB trails are made and maintained by volunteers of MORCA (Muskoka Off Road Cycling Association)
Buy day pass or membership at www.morca.ca Pay where you play! This keeps trail systems alive and well! Numbers DO matter!
In the past we found these trails either too easy or too hard (even the Blue trails are on the tougher side of Blue and in many areas in Ontario would be considered Black). Now with the addition of a new Blue mostly flowy trail 'Triple Crown' there is something in between. The other Blue that is less challenging is 'Taken for Granite' but still has sections that are true skill testers beyond what many other trail systems refer to as Blue. Read on for much more detail! By your MORCA day pass or membership and get out to ride the rocky Muskoka trails! www.morca.ca
Location: Off of Hwy 11 North of Hwy 118 take exit (directly across hwy from the former MNR (Ministry of Natural Resources) buildings. That is 1st parking lot (and easiest to exit onto Hwy 11 South if you are heading that way after your ride).
Parking: Lots of parking spaces available (Approx 30 vehicles at 1st parking area by High Falls old MNR buildings and further North on Hwy 11 at 2nd parking lot even more parking approx. 40 vehicles)
Washrooms: each parking lot has outhouse style porta-potties
Garbage: Yes bear-proof garbage bins
Picnic area: a couple picnic tables at each parking lot and a few benches throughout the trail intersections and a nice roofed pavilion with approx 6 picnic tables in the centre of trail system where most trails intersect (It would be nice if there was a large trail map sign at that pavilion but there isn't)
Cell Reception: Ok cell reception 2 bars on 3G phone and 2 to 3 bars on 5G phone
Trail signage: Excellent! Huge improvement this year in the signage at BRMC! More signs and they seem to be at almost every intersection. Beware some are old signs with the old trail map on them (Note* new trails this year are: Dark Green and Triple Crown). The main large signs at each parking lot has however been recently updated (according to MORCA's Instagram post beginning of Sept
Other: Tool station at parking lots are really handy! One at each parking lot
Nearby Bike Shops: Several bike shops in Bracebridge. The Small Town of Bracebridge, ON is a 10 mins drive from the BRMC trail system 1st parking lot across from High Falls former MNR buildings.
BRMC has something for everyone now! The Green trails are lengthy enough to entertain beginners for 30 mins to 45 mins, 'Jake Brake' and 'Triple Crown' are the easiest Blue trails in this trail system. 'Taken for Granite' is one of the tougher Blue trails. IMPORTANT Watch out on 'Down and Out' (one-direction trail) there is a rocky section that can really hurt you if you are going too fast to stop!!
I would say that the easiest of the black trails is 'Winter is Coming' then 'Body Dump' in my personal opinion. Lots of coniferous trees here so the smell of pine is in the air. It is a somewhat mixed forest (more coniferous than deciduous). Canadian Shield slab rocks and big rocks make for challenging features on the trails and fun rock spine rides and creeping down slabs. The roots are larger than what I am used to in Haliburton. In some spots roots are 4 inches to 6 inches thick and wide!
Although Huntsville's Hidden Valley and Deerhurst trails are only a 30min drive North on hwy 11 then turn off onto hwy 60 (direction to Ottawa) their trails have a very different feel to them. It would be interesting to ride both trail systems in one day to compare. I gave details about the Hidden Valley + Deerhurst trails that HMBA (Huntsville Mountain Bike Association) created (with help of the resorts and town) and maintains in my blog post on August 22, 2024.
